Sacred Treasure
- Josh Stacy has recently completed a theology PhD in Aberdeen and has now returned to his native USA. His reflections are striking and shocking.
- Kwame Bediako still defines the debate on African Culture and Christianity (from CT).
- Vern Poythress offers helpful insights into biblical theology: 5 Poor Ways to Approach the OT
- My boss Paul Windsor has a great post about the board game Snakes and Ladders
- Michael Prest (of UFM) has an important piece for the global church: Collaboration not Control (HT Chris Howles)
- This looks fascinating, with quite the lineup: the Global Migration Summit 2024 (HT Chris Howles)
- My old friend Nate Morgan-Locke (the reformed Mythologist) has put together an astonishingly good overview of the biblical Book of the prophet Jonah in the style of Dr Seuss. Brilliant at every level!
Topical Treasure
- The global Murdoch media empire (still!) headed by the mogul Rupert dominates western discourse. Michael Crick has written a brief but fascinating profile of the originator of this empire, his father Keith.
- Today is the Centenary of James Baldwin’s birth. This is a very helpful guide to where to start to get into reading him.
Quirky Treasure
- This is great! The Strand Magazine in 1897 profiled different (notorious) Bibles: check out the Bugge Bible (perhaps Bugge meant ghost, as in Bogeyman), the Vinegar Bible, and of course the Wicked Bible.
- I’ve been mesmerised and moved (in equal measure by Kathe Kollwitz’s work for years. Here is a selection of her 100+ self-portraits.
- Some very bad design decisions in public spaces!
- The botanical world has some amazing surprises in store if we look hard enough in the right places, of course.
- I also love these: images from from the 2024 Milky Way Photographer of the Year
