Why?

This is a blog by a Christian faithhead but who is also often confused (and amused) by life – not mutually exclusive. In fact, dare I say it, my trusting Him makes me more confused (or even amused) sometimes. But that’s OK – because i trust him! Life is about working that all through and seeing how trustworthy He is in the midst of it all – just that sometimes it is harder work searching for answers and confidence than other times.

That’s why this is called QUAERENTIA – a fairly unusual Latin word meaning seeking or searching. I’ve taken my cue from the theologian Anselm who spoke of “fides quaerens intellectum” meaning faith seeking understanding.

Who?

Mark was born in London and works as a freelance writer, a chaplain in Whitehall, and Director (Europe & Caribbean) for Langham Preaching (part of Langham Partnership). Married to Rachel, they have 2 children – Joshua and Zanna.

But the route to return has been decidedly indirect.

  • A few childhood years in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia
  • Several more years in East Anglia (Suffolk and then Norfolk)
  • Other years in Berkshire, Oxford and Cambridge
  • More time in London
  • 4 years in local church ministry in Sheffield, South Yorkshire
  • 4 years teaching and leading at a newish pastoral training college in Kampala, Uganda (with Crosslinks)
  • 9 years on the senior staff of All Souls Langham Place
  • And in 2017 we find ourselves back in Berkshire (where Rachel is on the staff of St Mary’s Maidenhead)!

What?

In no particular order, I love the following things, and find myself writing about them from time to time.
