Wow – how about that!? The 50th map of monthly treasure!
Enjoy…
Sacred Treasure
- Rowan Williams’ recent interesting Theos lecture on The Person and the Individual
- Tim Keller has been involved with creating a new catechesis – looks very interesting indeed
- In case you missed it, here are the links to the recent, interesting series at All Souls: Great Lies of our Time
- Well, here is a little piece that I ended up writing on sexuality for the Guardian last month… ho hum… lion’s den and all that…
- Tim Chester has written a great sequence of posts from Roy Joslin’s ground-breaking book Urban Harvest.
- (Another in-case-you-missed-it) Rowan Atkinson nails it here on the Reform Section 5 campaign – “more speech” is crucial for a society of true tolerance. ‘The freedom to be inoffensive is no freedom at all’.
Topical Treasure
- The Aftermath: arresting photos from the Balkans, former USSR and other places, depicting people coping after conflict has subsided.
- The horrors of the Jimmy Saville child abuse scandal have highlighted the real problem with child abuse – that it’s perpetrators are utterly plausible in their claims to honour and genuine care. This recent article by Malcolm Gladwell in the New Yorker on the Jerry Sandusky trial asks how paedophiles get away with it. Chilling but important reading.
- If you’ve not checked it out yet, James Naughtie’s series of 60 short radio programmes on The New Elizabethans is an absolute must. 60 people who have changed Britain for good or ill over the Queen’s diamond reign. He has a lovely manner, is informative, and often demonstrates great pathos as he tells these stories. Inspiring (mostly!) and fascinating.
- Howard Jacobson on Ed Miliband’s capitalising on his Jewish immigrant heritage and what it says about modern Britain.
- With US election fever at its height, here are 44 curious facts about 44 US presidents
Quirky Treasure
- Amazing what you can do with a sheet of A4
- Some idiosyncratic offices to die for.
- Margaret Atwood’s 10 Rules for Writing
- Some great things you can do with some steps in Beirut
- What were they thinking? Some moody classical CD mugshots
- Some very rare old photographs: part 1 and part 2
- Some very beautiful 2012 photographs of the day
- If you’ve ever been distracted by Tetris, then this may appeal
- Wagner’s entire Ring Cycle has been staged at Covent Garden this month – but if you can’t cope with that, this may help, thanks to Tom Service
- There is something rather sublime about this take on Van Gogh’s Starry Night

Bumper treasure this month! Getting through all this could take a week or more. My poor to-do list!
Love the A4 paper. If you ever get the chance to visit a Peter Callesen exhibition it’s definitely worth it. The online photos are amazing, but nothing compared to seeing them in real life. http://www.petercallesen.com/info/upcoming-exhibitions/
well you do have all month till the next one!!
