Friday Fun 17: Harry Graham’s Ruthless Rhymes

Graham - Ruthless Rhymes

Haven’t done a Friday Fun for a couple of months – oops. So thought i’d share something from a lovely Christmas present I received – a 1942 printing of Harry Graham’s 1930 classic, More Ruthless Rhymes for Heartless Homes. It doesn’t get much darker or blasĂ© than this. Just the ticket to keep morale up during the Blitz no doubt.

To give you the gist of his oeuvre, here is one from his 1898 edition of Ruthless Rhymes:

Father heard his children scream
So he threw them in the stream
Saying, as he drowned the third,
“Children should be seen, not heard!”

Marvellous. So here are a couple of highlights from the 1930 book. The man’s a genius.
